Haiku for Adulthood #57-#61

“Through the mask of my behavior, I do not protect my raw genuine self–I overcome it.” ~Susan Sontag

I won’t die from this

longing. But I also won’t

recover from it.

__________

Even her smile is

an embrace. One glimpse

and you consent to the world.

__________

I resist you–not

to stop your advances

but to feel you push back.

__________

I can’t have you, no.

But I can make you a

present of this feeling.

__________

You made me pray

nightly to a God I didn’t

know existed.
